How We can Help at Advance Occupational Therapy
At Advance Occupational Therapy we use a collaborative approach with caregivers, teachers and other important people in the child’s life to discuss areas of concerns and goals to be achieved. Assessments may involve standardized measures, play based observational assessments depending on what the areas of challenge are. Each client is individually tailored for with regard s to intervention and goals set.
We consider and discuss the various occupational tasks that the child engages in according to the care giver and child. These occupational tasks may include:
- Self Care: dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding
- Leisure: playing with other children, social interaction, imaginative play.
- Productivity: handwriting, reading, how a child is coping in their classroom environment, academic skills,
- Rest: Sleep routines
If your child is having challenges with any of the activities mentioned above then an assessment with us at Advance Occupational Therapy may be of benefit for your child.
We also see children presenting with the following challenges or diagnosis:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Hypotonia ie low muscle tone
- Global Developmental Delay
- CHARGE syndrome
- ADHD & ADD
- Cerebral Palsy
- Microcephaly
- Sensory Processing Disorders
- learning problems
- mental health or behavioral problems
- Coordination issues
At Advance Occupational Therapy we take the time to discuss the care giver’s concerns, conduct standardized and non standardized assessments, contact teachers and make school visits or contact teachers.
Based on all of this information an intervention plan is derived which consists of individualized goals. These goals are reviewed so that outcomes of therapy are always monitored. We believe in being outcomes based using the latest interventions.
Pre School and School Visits
At Advance Occupational therapy we offer to collaborate with preschool, day care or school. This is often discussed in the initial consultation and may be an option if this is where the challenges for the child exist or if educators are open to this.
